New Jersey's Online Searchable Database for Brownfield Properties

About

Brownfields: Any former or current commercial or industrial site, currently vacant or underutilized and on which there has been, or there is suspected to have been, a discharge of a contaminant. (Source: Brownfield and Contaminated Site Remediation Act, N.J.S.A. 58:10B-1 et seq.)

The NJ Brownfields Inventory Website is a searchable database which has the capability of displaying site statistics, narrative description, and, in the future will have a geographic positioning function and site photographs.   The NJ Brownfields Inventory Website is a collaboration with private property owners, municipalities and counties to efficiently build a shared database that will represent an inventory of Brownfields properties in New Jersey.

The NJ Brownfields Inventory Website serves as:
<>    A multiple listing service for prospective buyers/developers
<>    An important planning tool for municipalities, counties, regional entities and state agencies
<>    An archive for Brownfields redevelopment successes
<>    A tool for verifying site status as a Brownfields for certain incentives offered by state agencies
<>    A link to multiple additional sources of Brownfields information

In 1997, the "Brownfield and Contaminated Site Remediation Act" (P.L. 1997, c.278 ) established the New Jersey Brownfields Redevelopment Task Force to coordinate policy on Brownfields redevelopment regarding incentives, regulations, infrastructure and redevelopment planning assistance. One of the key tasks of the Task Force is to develop an inventory of Brownfields sites and to assist in marketing and prioritizing those sites. The NJ Brownfields Redevelopment Task Force is served and managed by the Brownfields Program in the Office for Planning Advocacy.
